Nicholas Manning, a respected healthcare executive and former Chief Operating Officer of Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC), was found dead earlier this week in a Baltimore, Maryland hotel room. He was 46 years old. Authorities in Baltimore have confirmed the death, which remains under investigation.
Police were dispatched to the Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore at approximately 2:04 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, after receiving a report of a potential overdose. Upon arrival, first responders found Manning “obviously deceased,” according to a statement from the Baltimore Police Department.
While officials reported that no signs of trauma were observed on his body, Manning’s remains were transferred to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will determine the official cause of death. The process is expected to take between 60 and 90 days.
Although authorities are treating the case as a potential overdose, members of Manning’s family have publicly expressed concerns that foul play may have been involved.
In multiple social media posts, the family has stated they believe Manning’s death was not accidental. Local News 8 has reached out to relatives for further comment but has not yet received a response.
Manning was well-known across the Intermountain West for his leadership and dedication to patient-centered care. Over the course of a 17-year career in healthcare, including 14 years with HCA Healthcare, Manning held several key leadership positions.
He was most recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell, Idaho, a role he began in late 2024 after serving with distinction at EIRMC.
Evan Ray, President of HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division, which oversees both West Valley Medical Center and EIRMC, expressed deep sorrow at the news of Manning’s passing.
“Nicholas Manning was a dedicated and mission-driven leader who loved connecting people to our shared purpose,” Ray said. “Throughout his entire career journey, Nick was a thoughtful and inspirational leader, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives and careers he touched.”
Manning’s impact went well beyond hospital walls. While living in Idaho Falls, he served on the board of directors for the Idaho Falls Symphony and the United Way of Bonneville County, and he contributed to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho as part of the East Idaho Champions Committee.
Colleagues and friends recall him as a generous, visionary leader who brought empathy and discipline to every endeavor. Isabella Chisholm, Interim CEO at West Valley Medical Center, echoed those sentiments.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Manning held an MBA in healthcare management from the University of Scranton and earned his undergraduate degree in Health Administrative Services from Weber State University.
His professional journey was marked by a strong sense of mission, commitment to improving healthcare outcomes, and a genuine interest in the well-being of both patients and staff.
As the investigation into his death continues, many in Idaho and across the healthcare community are left mourning not only a respected leader but a friend and mentor whose influence was far-reaching.
