Man with Concealed Carry License Shoots, Kills Armed Robbery Suspect in Humboldt Park

Chicago, IL – June 11, 2025 An attempted armed robbery turned deadly late Tuesday night in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, when a concealed carry license holder shot and killed the assailant in what authorities are describing as a clear act of self-defense.

The incident occurred around 10:48 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Artesian Avenue. According to police, an 18-year-old male attempted to rob a man at gunpoint. The intended victim, who is licensed to carry a concealed firearm, responded by drawing his weapon and firing multiple shots.

The suspect was struck several times, sustaining gunshot wounds to the chest, torso, thigh, and head. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators recovered four to five shell casings at the location, along with a Toyota Corolla linked to the suspect. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen in a carjacking, further confirming the suspect’s criminal activity.

Remarkably, the intended victim was unharmed during the confrontation and remained at the scene to speak with law enforcement. He is fully cooperating with the investigation, and no charges have been filed against him at this time.

Chicago police continue to review evidence and witness statements to complete their investigation. While the case remains open, initial findings indicate that the shooting was justified under Illinois self-defense laws.
